Up to 70 additional flights per week — A plus for passengers

13 feb

Québec City, February 13, 2017 – Aéroport de Québec inc. (AQi) is very pleased with WestJet’s decision to add up to 70 additional flights per week to and from Québec City (YQB). This decision has strengthened WestJet’s position and made it more competitive while meeting the needs of passengers in the greater Québec City area.

“Today’s announcement fits perfectly with our Passenger first® mission,” said AQi president and CEO Gaëtan Gagné. “Providing more flights from Québec City is central to our development strategy of making Québec City more accessible, further connecting the region to the rest of the world, and supporting the region’s economic growth, visibility, and profile,” added Gagné.

WestJet’s increased service to YQB will also help meet the needs of a growing number of passengers, which has risen in the past 15 years to 1.6 million. This major decision means passengers in the greater Québec City area will enjoy more flights to Montréal and Toronto as well as new destinations thanks to WestJet’s code-sharing agreement. The new services will provide quick access to WestJet’s European and Asian airline partners, including Air France, KLM, Emirates, China Southern, and Korean Air.

“We look forward to bringing more of WestJet's renowned customer service to Quebecers,” said Richard Bartrem, WestJet’s Vice-President of Marketing and Communications. “These flights will provide Quebecers with greater choice, flexibility, and lower fares to Toronto, Montréal, and across our network of more than 100 destinations.”

“Our passengers are the main beneficiaries of this increased competition,” added Gagné. “They can expect lower prices and better access to destinations across the globe. Today’s announcement shows how appealing our facilities are. We look forward to the future and the largest construction project in our history, YQB 2018, which by December 2017 will allow us to offer cutting-edge infrastructure and even more capacity for partners like WestJest”.

With this increased service, WestJet will double its staff in Québec City by creating 15 new jobs at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport by the end of 2017.
